Use 1/2 cup of whichever egg mixture is appropriate for you and apply to clean, damp hair. If there isn’t enough egg to coat scalp and hair, use more as needed. Leave on for 20 minutes, rinse with cool water (to prevent egg from “cooking”) and shampoo hair. Whole egg and yolks-only treatments can be applied once a month; whites-only treatment can be applied every two weeks.

water. Or add flat beer only to a spray bottle and spritz onto dry hair.

wheat, malt or hops) continues to strengthen and structure hair," says
Belkin. Treatments can be applied every other week.
For Dry or Sun-Damaged Hair

You can also add 1 to 2 Tbsp olive oil to loosen the honey for easier application. Treatment can be applied once a month.
For Oily or Greasy Hair

Expert Advice On Fall Hairstyles
When summer ends, update your hair color and hairstyle, along with
your wardrobe. To find out what's hot for fall, we went straight to the
experts for the
Fall hair color
1. "This fall, hair color should be rich, sophisticated, and luscious - using a subtle blend of warm and cool tones layered throughout the hair. This technique should be applied by sectioning the top of the head from the bottom. Using a more aggressive weft like layering pattern to apply below the round of the head, and a more natural approach above the round of the head. The colors although somewhat unnatural (meaning the use of warm and cool tones), should be very close to the same level of light or dark. If you're thinking of getting chunky highlights this fall -- DON'T!"- Dusty Simington, celebrity hairstylist and 2007 Master Stylist of the Year. Dusty's clients include Tiffani Thiessen, Ryan Seacrest, Daisy Fuentes, Jennie Garth and more
2. "Fall is a wonderful time for curls to get a fabulous makeover with color! Chestnut brown and warm chocolate browns are always a seasonal favorite but true excitement will be seen with this season's redheads from the deep burgundy hues to carrot top reds, textured tresses all over beginning to make new statements with bolder riskier tones. Color is an excellent way to accent beautiful waves and curls and give them a new life!"
- Keneesha Hudson, curly hair expert and owner of salon/hair apothecary Urbanbella in Atlanta
Fall hairstyles
3. "We'll be seeing boy short masculine crops to long tresses with bobs in between, although the bob is slightly losing ground, it's still a popular and versatile look. Bobs can be worn in lengths from the cheek bones to the clavicle. Classic, edgy, shaggy, or with bangs. Don't forget to accessorize your long hair with bangs this fall , if you already haven't, wide side swept sultry bangs or a strong mop fringe can add a sexy, youthful fresh spin to that tired old long layered look."- Dusty Simington, celebrity hairstylist and 2007 Master Stylist of the Year.
4. "Reds, oranges, blacks and grays were heavily featured in the fall fashion collections, and we'll be seeing them in stores at summer's end. Textures will be soft to very soft. As a result, haircuts this fall will stay long and deconstructed; tones will stay blonde. This trend will likely to continue through
50 Best Beauty Tips: The Only Beauty Advice You'll Ever Need
To
help you make 2014 a huge sartorial success, we recently brought you 50
of the best fashion tips of all time. And now, we turn our attention to
beauty. Feast your eyes on 50 of our favourite get-beautiful tips.
We
scoured the net for every bit of advice we could find, and threw some
ideas of our own in for good measure. From basic beauty dos (wear
sunscreen every day) to don't's (avoid popping pimples) as well as
obscure secrets (beer and vinegar rinses?), you'll find advice to keep
you as beauty-full as ever.
Freeze Your Eyeliner
Does
your eyeliner constantly crumble while putting it on? Our friends at
You Beauty recommend leaving it in the freezer for 15 minutes prior to
applying your makeup. It should glide along your lash line seamlessly
after that.
Shave With Conditioner
If
you're out of shaving cream, lather your legs with conditioner instead
of soap. Conditioner will soften the hair on your legs making it easier
to shave (and it will leave your skin feeling extra silky).
Rinse Hair With Beer Or Vinegar
Rinsing
your hair with beer helps restore moisture to your locks while using
vinegar will up the ante in shine. Soak your hair in either liquid (not
at the same time) for a few minutes, then rinse with cold water.
Turn Up The Heat
For
curlier, flirtier lashes, the experts at You Beauty recommend heating
your lash curler with a hair dryer for five to eight seconds before
curling them.
Use Ice Cubes To Keep Fat, Acne And Wrinkles At Bay
The
experts at You Beauty recommend massaging an ice cube over your face
until it melts. Do it every night before bed and keep fat cells, acne
and wrinkles under control.
Make Your Manicure Last.. And Last
Before
applying nail polish, wipe nails with an acetone-based cleanser. Essie
Weingarten, founder of Essie Cosmetics, told the pros at Redbook that
cleaning excess dirt, oil or moisturizer from your nails will ensure
that the polish adheres properly. Follow the rest of these tips at
Redbook and your perfectly polished manicure will last for a week and a
half.
Soothe Your Stomach.. And Your Face
Apparently
Pepto-Bismol isn't just a stomach soother, it can also be used as a
facial mask. It contains bismuth subsalicylate, which is commonly found
in facial creams. In an interview with Reader's Digest, Dr.Frances Jang,
a dermatologist at Skinworks, recommended spreading two teaspoons of
Pepto-Bismol on your face, then letting it dry for 15 to 30 minutes
before rinsing it off with warm water.
Apply Sunscreen Daily
Wear
sunscreen every day, rain or shine. Even when it's cloudy. According to
the American Academy of Dermatology, 80 per cent of the sun's
ultraviolet rays pass through the clouds.
Don't Neglect Your Elbows
It's
easy to forget about your elbows, but they need just as much protection
and care as other parts of your body. Cure dry elbows by massaging
Bio-Oil onto them daily. You'll see and feel softer elbows in at least
two days.
Lighten Hair With Chamomile Tea And Lemon Juice
In
an interview with Reader's Digest, Popie Poulos, hairstylist and owner
of The Salon, recommends rinsing your hair with a mixture of chamomile
and fresh lemon juice instead of conditioner to permanently lighten your
tresses. Allow your hair to dry while sitting in the sun or use a blow
dryer — the heat will lighten your locks.
De-Puff Your Eyes With Raw Potatoes
In
an interview with Reader's Digest, Dr.Frances Jang, a dermatologist at
Skinworks recommends using raw potato slices to soothe your eyes. She
says they are astringent which means they help decrease water retention
and they also contain the enzyme catalase which helps lighten dark under
eye circles. First, wash and peel a potato. Cut two slices and place
one on each eye for 10 minutes. Lay down, relax and let the potatoes
work their magic. Rinse the eye area gently with lukewarm water when
you're done.
Maximize The Lifespan Of Your Blow Out
We
love walking out of the salon with a fresh blow out, but how do you
prevent your locks from going limp in the days after? The experts at
Allure say plan early. Your hair naturally secretes oil so be two steps
ahead and spray your roots with dry shampoo before you start producing
oil. This way the dry shampoo will absorb any moisture before it weighs
down your tresses. Also make sure you protect your hair from moisture
(rain is sure to ruin your mane) and touch up your blow out in the
morning using a hair dryer and round brush. It will give you an instant
boost of volume.
Countouring Creates Dimension
The
trick to achieving a chiseled celebrity-like face is to contour
(Angelina Jolie cheekbones, anyone?). Your face is three dimensional so
applying foundation in a single tone will only make your face appear
flat. Add a highlighter to areas of your face that would usually catch
light but create enough shadow to emphasize your jaw line and
cheekbones. For tips on how to contour your face according to its
specific shape, visit Total Beauty.
Say Goodbye To Makeup Sponges
Makeup
sponges help you apply make up, but not without a cost. They usually
soak up more liquid foundation than what ends up on your face. The
result? You're wasting foundation and constantly buying new sponges. The
fix? Get a foundation brush. You waste less foundation and it allows
for a more even and precise application than a sponge would.
Avoid Overly Rosy CheeksGiving
yourself a natural glow avec blush is an in look for spring. But you'll
want to avoid brushing on too much (lest you look like a clown). So
always start your blush line two finger widths away from your nose and
only apply it on the apples of your cheeks. This will ensure you create a
natural glow without going overboard.
Keep Misbehaving Brows In Check
Spritz
an old toothbrush or a clean mascara wand with hairspray, then brush
brows and style them as desired. Even the most hard to tame brows will
fall in line with this trick.
Applying False LashesAdding
extra eye fringe amps up the glam instantly. First, take your falsies
and loosen them by gently flexing the eyelash band, then curl your
natural lashes to make sure your falsies line up with your actual lash
line. Apply glue on your falsies using a Q-tip. Using tweezers (or
finger tips if you feel that gives you more control), place your falsies
as close to your lash line as possible. Let your lashes dry for a
minute before you add a coat of mascara (this is optional).
Toothpaste Zaps Pimples
You've
heard it before — don't pop your zits! The folks over at Daily Glow
suggest applying a bit of toothpaste to a pimple before bed and washing
it off with warm water when you wake up in the morning. They say that
toothpastes draws impurities out of clogged pores and dries the skin
with shrinks the pimple. Opt for organic toothpastes rather than gel
toothpastes which don't work as well.
Blot Away Excess Oil
Do
you start the morning with matte, fresh-looking skin only to find that
by the time 5 p.m. rolls in you're a shiny mess? If you have oily skin
then blotting papers are a beauty godsend. Don't use powder to soak up
the oil. Using too much periodically throughout the day will make your
skin appear cakey because you're just layering makeup on top of more
makeup. Opt for blotting papers instead. They will soak up all the oil.
We love We love Sephora's blotting papers.
No Makeup Remover? Try Lotion Instead
If you're out of makeup remover, use body lotion to get rid of makeup. It works especially well on tough mascara.
Create Fuller Lips
If
you're tired of having thin, pursed puckers, extend your lip line using
a neutral-toned lip liner. Then apply lipstick over top. Be careful
though — don't extend your lip line too much.
Lashes For Miles
Curl
your lashes both before and after applying mascara for longer lashes.
You may want to re-curl them throughout the day to get some extra lift,
just remember to be gentle when you apply pressure with your curler.
Don't Pop It
No,
no, no! Don't pop your zits. Not only does it increase the chance of
scarring, it's also likely that you will worsen the blemish and spread
bacteria to other places on your face which could give rise to another
breakout.
Stop Your Hair Colour From Fading
If
you've just had your hair dyed, the last thing you want is for the
colour to fade. One surefire way to prevent such a mishap from happening
is to use a deep-conditioning treatment once a month. This will help
lock in colour and has the added benefit of staving off dry and damaged
locks.
Use A Flat Iron To Create WavesFlat
irons are amazing tools with multiple uses. Not only can you use it to
straighten your hair, you can also create tight curls or soft romantic
waves.
Exfoliate Your Lips
Dry,
flaky, chapped lips are the worst canvas for lipstick. To ensure that
your puckers are in perfect pout condition, the experts at The Beauty
Department recommend exfoliating your lips. To do this, apply lip balm
to your lips, then using a toothbrush or clean mascara wand, scrub your
lips (don't be too rough). Then, use a tissue to wipe away excess flakes
and voila! You'll have a perfect pout in no time.
Microwave Lotion Into Luxury
Who
doesn't love a spa day? If we could go every day, we probably would,
but that would also put a dent in our wallets. A quick, easy and cheaper
indulgence is to put your favourite lotion in the microwave for about
10 seconds. Make sure the oils in your lotion don't separate and that it
isn't too hot. Apply it on to your skin and enjoy!
Exfoliate Daily
Exfoliation
is an important and easy way to buff away the dead skin cells that
cover up your skin's natural glow. Use a light exfoliator, like the
Daily Microfoliant from Dermalogica, to freshen your face daily.
Know Your Shade
When
choosing a foundation, test a product on the skin near your jawline.
And be sure to do it in natural light. This will ensure the foundation
tone you choose for your face isn't too different from the natural shade
of your neck. We really love Makeup Forever's Invisible Cover HD
Foundation because it comes in so many shades.
Uses For Old Mascara Wands
Don't
throw away your old mascara wand, it's still got a few uses left. Clean
it and use it as a brow brush instead. You might even find it handy
around the house — use it to unclog sinks or clean tough to reach areas
in your home.
Wear Pantyhose Or Tights
What's
worse than having to wear a skirt with absolutely no time to shave your
legs? We've all been there. The hassle free fix for this is to wearing
pantyhose or tights (try a patterned pair for something new). It will
disguise stubble as well as any blemishes on your stems.
Tweezing Tips
Before
you tweeze, make sure you soften your skin by dabbing a cotton ball
soaked in warm water or cream. When you start tweezing, do so in the
direction of your hair's growth.
Camouflage Grey Hair
If
you want to camouflage some strands of grey hair on the go, the folks
at Real Simple suggest using mascara if you have dark hair. For blondes
or redheads try dusting your roots with bronzing powder.
Cut Back On Pedicures
Save
money on your beauty routine by taking care of your feet on a daily
basis. Simply scrub your foot with a pumice stone each morning in the
shower. Once you step out and dry off, apply a moisture cream to your
feet. This will increase the amount of time you can go without a
pedicure and will keep your toes healthy and fungus-free.
Use Dry Shampoo
We
absolutely love dry shampoo, especially Klorane (we use this brand
religiously). It absorbs excess oil on your strands and scalp and keeps
your mane looking clean and fresh. If you don't have dry shampoo, try
washing just the top of your head (or wherever there is oil), with
regular shampoo followed by a quick blow dry. Your tresses will look as
good as new.
Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
Be
beautiful and environmentally savvy while you're at it. Recycle your
old beauty products by shipping them to Terra Cycle (you can download
their pre-paid UPS shipping packages online so it's completely free).
They'll take your old beauty products and transform them into something
new.
Don't Pump Your Mascar
The
experts at Beauty Is My Duty say that you should never pump your
mascara (i.e., moving the wand up and down in the tube really quickly)
because it will only allow air into the tube which will cause your
mascara to dry (and ultimately shorten its lifespan).
Apply Bronzer Evenly
Before
applying bronzer or self-tanning lotion, mix a drop or two of the
solution with moisture cream. Blend using your finger or a Q-tip then
apply to skin as you would regular moisturizer. This will ensure the
cream blends in — and covers skin — evenly.
Use Oil On Your Skin.. Even If It's Already Oily
This
probably sounds crazy, but using an oil-based product to remove makeup
or excess dirt from your skin can actually improve your epidermis'
condition. Why? Over-cleaning stimulates the sebum glands, which causes
skin to over-produce oil. Using oil-based products will have the
opposite effect.
Avoid Chipped Nail Polish Like The PlagueThere
are only two options for your nails — with nail polish or without. Do
not allow your nails to be caught somewhere in the middle (there is
nothing worse than nails donning chipped red nail polish). Even if you
think no one else will notice, trust us, someone will.
Moisturize ProperlySometimes
less is more. Don't slather your face with moisturizer because it will
take 10 minutes or more to be absorbed by the skin before your face is
ready for makeup. In an interview with Real Simple, Susan Evans, a
dermatologist, said the best way to apply face cream is to blend a
dime-sized amount on your cheeks, nose, chin and forehead instead of
moisturizing heavily.
Clean Your Makeup Brushes
Make
sure you clean your makeup brushes regularly to avoid a buildup of
makeup residue and bacteria. You can purchase makeup brush cleaner from a
drug or beauty store, or you can simply use shampoo and conditioner to
clean your brushes as you would your own hair. Clean brushes guarantee a
super smooth and even makeup application every time.
Treat Ingrown Hairs
Apply
a product containing azulene or witch hazel to help reduce the swelling
and redness that's associated with ingrown hairs. From there, coax the
ingrown hair from its location with a pair of tweezers (don't pull it
out, though — this will only make the ingrown hair regrow in in the same
way later).
Towel Dry The Right Way
Don't
rub your hair dry with your towel; it will cause your hair to frizz.
Instead, before getting out of the shower gently squeeze excess water
from your hair. Then, wrap your hair in a towel and pat it dry to absorb
any remaining moisture.
Consult A Doctor Before Popping Pills
Do
you really need all those supplements? It's true the healthier you are,
the healthier your skin and hair will be. But popping supplements
without discussing them with your doctor can do more harm than good.
Why? Because mixing certain vitamins and minerals can have the opposite
effect of what you're hoping. Talk to your physician before popping any
pills.
Remove Nail Polish Without Remover
If
you run out of nail polish remover, you can remove cracked or chipped
nail polish by applying a clear top coat to the nail and removing it
promptly with a cotton ball.
Perfume Basics
Don't
douse yourself with perfume before you leave the house (you don't want
to bombard other people's nostril with strong smells). Just because you
can't smell it doesn't mean other people won't be able to. If you wear
it every day, chances are your olfactory sense has just become
desensitized to the scent. Only spray or dab perfume on select spots
like your knees, wrists, base of throat, and behind your earlobes.
A Top Coat Is A Must
Add
a top coat to freshly painted nails, and then again once they are dry.
This makes your nail polish less likely to chip and will ensure it lasts
longer.
Clarify Your Hair
In
order to remove product build-up from locks, use a clarifying shampoo
once a week. This will also help prevent dandruff and other annoying
hair/scalp conditions.

The Bobby Pin Trick That Changes Everything
Are
you sitting down? If not, we recommend you find somewhere to do so
before reading any further – we’re about to drop a bombshell. You know
your trusty bobby pins? Those little things you use to hold all your
intricate ‘dos in place? Well, you’re using them wrong. We’ll give you a
moment to collect yourself.
If
you feel like you did when you first found out you could curl your hair
with a straightener, we feel you. This is one of those nuggets of
information that might just change your beauty routine forever.
Intrigued? Shocked? Annoyed at us for not sharing the trick already?
Give ‘em Grip
This
trick is a game-changer for fine-haired ladies: spray your bobby pins
with hairspray. That’s right – your go-to styling product is a match
made in heaven with these little pins. Coating your bobby pins with a
layer of hairspray will transform them into “sticky pins” and give them a
better grip when you slide them into that carefully styled bouffant
braid. If you don’t want to spray them individually, you can place your
bobby pins on a paper towel, spray, then pick up the paper towel on the
edges and give them a little shake to distribute the product evenly.
Then, just pin away!
Get Flipped
We
weren’t sure we were ready for our worlds to be turned upside down
either – but now that we’ve seen the light, there’s no going back. You
know the ridged side of bobby pins? That part should actually face
towards your scalp. The wavy texture allows it to grip your hair better
and prevent it from sliding out. By flipping your bobby pins, the smooth
side will also blend in better with your hair – perfect when creating a
chic chignon or any other sleek style. We know, we know…Mind. Blown.
Still skeptical? Give it a whirl – we guarantee you’ll notice a
difference.
4 Reasons to Buy Lipstick Today
Buy lipstick
Excuse
us for a moment, but we’re about to make a profound beauty declaration:
life’s too short to live it without a lip color you love. In honor of
this deep, philosophical truth, we give you four reasons to buy lipstick
today.
1. It’s a mood enhancer—both shopping for it, and subsequently, wearing it.
Ah,
retail therapy—the best kind there is. We don’t have the scientific
studies to back up this claim, but we’re pretty sure trying on new
lipstick releases endorphins. Just try not to smile once you’ve found
your perfect pink. Somehow all memories of that hellish 3-hour meeting
simply melts away when you dash out of a store with a crisp, new
shopping bag in hand.
2. It costs less than the leather jacket you’ve been eyeing.
Sometimes
having champagne taste on a beer budget poses a bit of challenge. We
like to think lipstick is the solution to this problem. That jacket
you’ve been lusting after could do serious damage to your bank account
if you ever pull the trigger. But, like we already established, a girl’s
got to shop. That Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids lipstick can be
yours for less than what you spent on the salad you had for lunch (and
it will be so much more satisfying).
3. It will be flattering even when your skinny jeans fail you.
It’s
a sad fact of life, but sometimes those skinny jeans that make your
derriere look divine just don’t slide on as easily as they should.
Fortunately, the same is not true for your favorite red lipstick. A good
lip color is one absolute you can always rely on.
4. It’s an instant confidence booster.
Okay,
maybe we’re the only ones who have ever swiped on Giorgio Armani Rouge
Ecstasy in 503 Diva to tackle our long list of household chores, but
there’s still no denying that putting on a pretty shade of lipstick
instantly gives you the I can do anything attitude. (And if it doesn’t,
you’re not wearing the right lipstick.)
7 Black Eyeliners Makeup Artists Can’t Live Without
The
first time we invited black eyeliner into our makeup routine was a
life-changing moment. Ever since that initial awkward, hesitant, shaky
swipe, we’ve counted our trusty liner as one our closest beauty
companions – there for us during our grunge phase (shudder), cat-eye
obsession (still going strong) and all of the crazy emotional mood
swings in between. We decided to poll some of the top makeup artists to
see what liner they count as their closest confidant – here’s what they
said…
The Pick: Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Waterproof Eye Pencil
The Perk: Waterproof
The
Praise: NYC-based makeup artist Ashley Rebecca swears by this pencil:
“It stays all day and doesn’t smudge. Use it to line the inner rim of
your eye for the perfect smoky look!”
The Pick: Marc Jacobs Magic Marc’er Precision Pen in Blacquer
The Perk: Precise
The
Praise: Perfect lines your thing? Celebrity makeup artist Melissa Walsh
recommends Marc Jacobs Magic Marc’er Precision Pen in Blacquer. “It’s
incredibly easy to apply,” she says, “The pen is like a tapered felt tip
that is firm and not too long, so it’s easy to control.” If you tend to
end up with raccoon-eyes at the end of the day, this pencil will give
you a “beautiful, shiny, deep black line that literally won’t budge
until you take it off with eye makeup remover.”
The Picks: Stila Cosmetics Kajal Eyeliner, L’Oréal Paris Super Liner Blackbuster
The Perks: Soft, Bold
The
Praise: When it comes to creating a smoky eye, makeup artist Brandy
Gomez-Duplessis has two steps. “Stila Cosmetics Kajal Eyeliner is one of
the darkest pencil eyeliners. The soft texture glides on very easy,
giving you that sultry, smoky all-day wear,” says Duplessis. To take it
to the next level, she goes over the eye with L’Oréal Paris Super Liner
Blackbuster liner for an “intoxicating flirty eye. It gives you eight
hours of rock star glam.”
The Pick: Maybelline Eye Studio Master Drama Eyeliner
The Perk: Blendable
The
Praise: “This is such a versatile pencil,” says celebrity makeup artist
Gabriel Almodovar, “It’s essentially a cream liner in a pencil form.”
He raves about this pigmented pencil’s ability to glide on smoothly and
stay moist long enough for him to blend and smudge if needed. The best
part? It dries to a matte finish for all-day wear. Take heed, smudge
queens.
The Pick: Colorescience Crème-Gel Liner
The Perk: Gel
The
Praise: Makeup artist Elle Leary raves about this gel liner: “It is not
only really, really long-wearing, smudge-proof and the blackest black,
but it’s also really easy to use. Goes on so softly and dries in a
snap!!”
The Pick: Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
The Perk: Liquid
The
Praise: If liquid liner stresses you out, listen up: Stila Stay All Day
Waterproof Liquid might just change everything. “Liquid liner can be
intimidating to use,” says makeup artist Tiffany Hall-Scarmana, “but
[this liner] goes on in one fluid motion, is easy to control and stays
on until you’re ready to take it off.” The patent-leather finish glams
up your standard cat-eye and Scarmana says it’s a must-have for any
beauty lover. Pro tip: Thin out your line to give the illusion of
fuller, thicker lashes.
The Busy Girl’s Guide to Surviving the Rest of Winter
Basic winter survival usually consists of movie nights curled up in
front of the fireplace, copious amounts of comfort food and wool –
layers and layers of it. Your skin, on the other hand, requires an
entirely different plan of action in order to survive the season. It’s
dry, it’s dull, and it’s only February. Between shoveling snow off of
your car (thank you, polar vortex), spiking your hot chocolate and
researching tropical vacations, you don’t exactly have time to turn your
daily skincare routine into a 60-minute spa treatment. Never fear; busy
girls can breeze right into spring with a little help from this trio of
skin-saving superstars. Oils, acids and retinols: three ingredients
that work extra hard so you don’t have to.
Oils
Oils are a busy girl’s dream because its the one product that covers
all bases—skin, hair, nails. They hydrate, nourish, revitalize and
rebalance all with just a few drops. Argan oil will always be a standby,
but try rounding out the rest of winter with a light coconut or marula
oil.
Product Picks: The Body Shop Coconut Beautifying Oil, African Botanics Pure Marula Oil
Acids
Suggesting you up your acids game may sound a little intense, but your skin needs exfoliation
this time of year. You can easily combat dullness while you wash with
an acid-rich cleanser. Gylcolic and salicylic acid face washes gently
renew the skin’s surface, allowing you to sport a smooth, bright
complexion.
Product Picks: SkinCeuticals Purifying Cleanser, Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel
Retinols
If you thought retinols were too irritating for winter skin,
you thought wrong. In fact, when paired with the right ingredients,
products containing retinol can provide all day hydration along with the
skin tone evening, fine line fighting powers you know and love.
Product Picks: Garnier Ultra-Lift Transformer Anti-Age Skin Corrector, L’Oréal RevitaLift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Day Cream SPF 18

1. The Do's & Don'ts of filling in your Eyerbrows
Thick,
thin, strong, soft, dark, light—we know (and love) that brows come in
all different shapes and sizes. Arches can be high, slightly rounded or
nearly straight across; and we say embrace what you’ve got. But don’t
forget even the Cara Delevingne’s of the world require a little work to
get their brows looking picture perfect. Of course, eyebrow shaping is
not a one-size-fits-all situation; but whether you’re a blondie, a
brunette or a redheaded beauty, these arch-sculpting do’s and don’ts
will guide you on your path to impeccably groomed brows.
DO find the right color for your eyebrows.
Pay
attention to the undertones of the brow makeup you try—not just how
dark or light a color is—and consult our guide for the complete shade
breakdown.
DON’T strive for solid color throughout.
DON’T strive for solid color throughout.
Filling
in your eyebrows doesn’t mean your brows need to be uniform in color
end to end. Focus on filling in the sparse areas instead.
DO concentrate on the arch.
The arch is where you want the most definition, so it’s okay to build up the intensity at the highest point in your brow.
DON’T be afraid to use two shades.
Everyone’s hair is multi-tonal—using more than one color on the brows can actually look more natural.
DO use a spoolie brush to start and finish.
To
begin, brush out and away, guiding your brows into place. Then finish
with a few strokes of the spoolie brush to blur any harsh markings.
DON’T forget brow gel.
Brow
gel sets your eyebrows in place, ensuring they’ll remain just as
defined at dinnertime as they look at the start of the day. Brow wax is
another option.
DO play up their shape.
Apply
a thin line of concealer along the bottom edge of the eyebrow and add
highlighter above the arch to accentuate your bold, beautiful brows.
2. 3 Reasons Invisible Lip Liner is Your Lip Best Friend
BFF
happens to be one of our fave abbrevs and as such, we don’t take the
term lightly. To earn the title of Best Friend, you’ve got to prove
yourself. Our closet-sharing, hard truth-giving, sentence-finishing, red
wine-sipping BFF did so many years ago. And while no beauty product
will ever come close to her, unfortunately she has a life that doesn’t
consist of being by our side 24/7, and she also won’t fit in our
handbag. That’s where our beauty BFFs come in. The products that exceed
our expectations and make our lives easier earn a special place in our
hearts. We’ve been on good terms with a nifty little treasure known as
invisible lip liner for some time now and we have three reasons why you
should be too.
1. It’s lip liner for the lip liner adverse.
If
you’re still one of those people who think lip liner is so 1992,
invisible lip liner is the lip liner for you. It’s clear so the
likelihood of ending up with a ring around your lips stained two shades
darker than the rest of your mouth is, exactly, zero. Trust us, this is
not your grandma’s lip liner. Not a mauve or dusty rose in
sight—actually invisible lip liner just may be the lip liner of the
future; trendsetters take note.
2. It’s reversible.
2. It’s reversible.
You
know that excitement you get when you’re “just browsing”? You pick up a
jacket and OMG it’s reversible!? That’s invisible lip liner. You can
wear it two different ways, because who doesn’t love a good twofer? To
prolong the wear of lipstick, use it as a primer to line and fill in
your lips (as you would any lip liner). You can also use it to line the
outer perimeter of lips just outside the natural lip line. This creates a
barrier effect to prevent bleeding and also fills in fine lines around
the mouth.
3. It’s like lip liner for dummies.
3. It’s like lip liner for dummies.
It’s
foolproof. Yes, you’ve probably heard that product claim come out of
the mouths of beauty girls many times before (guilty as charged), BUT
this time it’s actually true. One unexpected bauble with the hot pink
liner and your perfect cupid’s bow is shot. One slip with invisible lip
liner and no one will be the wiser. It’s the lip liner you can apply in
your car (not that we would ever recommend doing that).
Now that you know why you need invisible liner in your life, here are our top picks (who knows, they may become your next bestie): Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil in Ozone, Lancôme Le Lipstique Lip Contouring Stick with Brush in Clair, No Bleeding Lips Secret Lip Liner, and Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Liner in Clear.

3.How Long is Long Enough: Knowing When to Put Down the Beauty Tools
We’re
always in favor of doing a thorough job. May no blemish be left
unconcealed and all that. But at a certain point we have to realize that
our beautifying behaviors may, in fact, be overkill. If you’ve ever
found yourself lingering in front of the bathroom mirror, read on
because today we’re giving you the definitive answers on how long is
long enough when it comes to beauty tools.
Eyelash Curler: 3 seconds per section
Eyelash Curler: 3 seconds per section
We’ve
all had the unfortunate experience of over-curling our eyelashes to the
point where the curl is more of a kink–not cute. The trick to avoiding
crimped lashes is to hold the curler in place for no longer than 3
seconds. If you use our 3-step method to curl your eyelashes, you can
press down for up to three seconds at each point.
Facial Cleansing Brush: 1 minute
You
pick up a facial cleansing brush because you yearn for that squeaky
clean feeling that mere fingertips cannot deliver. Because these brushes
are so much more powerful than manual cleansing, you don’t really need
to spend more than 60 seconds scrubbing. We admit we’ve been tempted to
go back for more after our pre-assigned minute is up, but these devices
clean better and are more effective at removing dirt, oil and makeup
than hands alone. Plus, you’ll still reap the benefits without the extra
time spent scrubbing.
Curling Iron: 3-7 seconds depending on hair type
Curling Iron: 3-7 seconds depending on hair type
If
you’re one of those people with hair that simply will NOT hold a curl,
you’ve probably been tempted to just hang out with your strands wrapped
around the barrel for as long as they’ll stand it. Resist that urge.
Heat styling is damaging enough before you start tacking on extra
seconds here and there. The pros insist most people only need 3-5
seconds. If you have thick, coarse hair it may be closer to 5-7 seconds.
But never exceed 10 seconds–at that point you’re just sizzling your
strands.
Straightener: a few seconds per section
When
you’re going for super sleek straight hair it’s tough to know just how
long your tresses can stand the heat of your flat iron. Turns out it’s
even more difficult to put a specific time limit on it. Rather, the key
is to run your straightener down each section of hair in one continuous
movement, never stopping or lingering in one place for too long. This
could be 3 seconds, this could take up to 10 seconds–it all depends on
your hair length. Just remember to move swiftly and your tresses should
be in good shape.
4.How to Look Like You Just Had an Amazing Vacation
It’s
around this time of year when we start Pinning far-off, sunny locales
to our Travel-themed Pinterest boards and daydreaming about our next
tropical vacay. Unfortunately, the gloomy weather outside (and our
ever-increasing workload) isn’t exactly making those dreams come true.
Our solution? Fake it ‘til you make it, of course. There’s no reason why
you can’t make it appear like you’ve had a week-long vacation at Turks
and Caicos, even if in reality you’ve been chained to a desk and braving
the Polar Vortex. If anyone asks, just smile mysteriously – they’ll
never know…
Get Glowing
The first indicator you just spent a week drinking Mai Tais by the beach and indulging in every spa treatment known to mankind? Plump, glowing skin. Our favorite way to fake a post-vacation glow is to indulge in a hydrating face mask. Look for ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid and dimethicone to give your skin a big dose of moisture. If you really want to amp up the radiance factor, try a sheet mask – they might make you look like you’re about to rob a bank (or give off a slight Silence of the Lambs vibe), but the sheet mask design actually traps formula on top of your skin and seals in all of the hydrating properties.

Bronze
Sallow,
paltry skin that hasn’t seen the light of day – begone! We love the
look of a hint of bronze in the winter months – not only will it warm up
your winter complexion, but it will give you a believable, faux “I just
spent a week in Hawaii/the Caribbean/St. Barths/etc.” glow. The key is
to go low on the shimmer factor – too much sparkle and you’ll start
moving into oompa loompa territory. Here are our expert-approved tips on
how to fake your bake in the winter months.
Brighten
Brighten
If
you’ve been spending too many late nights at the office, you’re bound
to encounter one of our worst foes: dark circles. To make it look like
you’ve been exploring an exotic, sunny locale and indulging in many a
siesta instead of being cooped up at the office for 12 hours a day,
we’ve got two words for you – highlight and conceal. Brighten dark
undereye circles with a light, creamy concealer a shade or two lighter
than your natural skin tone. Then, take a highlighting pen and sweep it
above your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose and across your
forehead. You’ll instantly look more alive and well-rested.
Get Dewy
Get Dewy
There’s
nothing that screams “ENVY ME, I JUST HAD AN AMAZING VACATION” (even if
you didn’t) more than fresh, dewy skin. The winter climate isn’t
exactly conducive to dewiness, so what’s a desk-ridden busy girl to do?
Fake it with a hydrating facial mist. Keep one by your desk and give
yourself a spritz every time you feel your skin could use a boost. Just
prepare yourself for some envious looks from your coworkers.
5. Paint by Numbers: How to Use 1 Eyeshadow Palette to Create 3 LooksPaint
There
are some things from our childhood that we wish had withstood the test
of time – paint by numbers kits being one of them. We’ll forever mourn
the loss of these genius inventions that allowed even the least artistic
child to create masterpieces of scenic sunsets, open fields, and
horses…so many horses. We’re getting emotional just thinking about it.
Sure, the end result never looked quite as amazing as the packaging
promised and yes, most of the time we got fed up with straining our eyes
to find those annoying numbers, but other than that, we yearned for the
days when we could create something beautiful (okay, that might be kind
of a stretch) from just a few colors and a drawn-out guide.
With our nostalgia in mind, we decided to create our own beauty version of a paint by numbers kit using Lancôme’s Color Design Eye Brightening All-In-One 5 Shadow & Liner Palette in Taupe Craze. With this kit, makeup artist Jessica Scantlin created three totally different looks, starting with the basic, adding shimmer, and then going dramatic and smoky – so much better (and prettier) than our squiggly landscapes. Read on to find out how you can recreate each look…

Read on to find out how you can recreate each look…
Look #1: Basic
Scantlin
used the peachy color at the top of the palette along Maria’s lashline,
then applied the middle matte brown color in her crease and socket.
Taking a thin eyeliner brush, she used the dark brown color at the
bottom of the palette as liner to accentuate Maria’s eyes.
Look #2: Shimmer
Look #2: Shimmer
Now
comes the fun part – shimmer. For this second look, Scantlin built on
the basic eye look by using the two shimmery colors in the middle of the
palette. To accentuate the shimmer, she first wet the shadows then
applied the darker shimmer along the lash line. She then mixed the two
shimmery shades together along the socket and center of the lid.
Finally, she used the lighter shimmer on the right of the palette along
the lower lash line, tracing it from the outer corner to the inner
corner to brighten Maria’s eyes.
Look #3: Smoky
To
add an alluring layer to the look, Scantlin smoked things out by
pressing the dark brown eyeshadow into Maria’s crease and then blended
it out with a round, fluffy eyeshadow brush. She finished by filling an
eyeliner brush with the same shade and carefully traced it along the
lash line for a perfect smoky eye.
6. 8 Makeup Artist Tricks for Applying Mascara Better8 Makeup Artist Tricks for Applying Mascara Better
Admit
it – you’ve been known to harbor perfectionist tendencies on occasion. A
touch of Type A personality here and there never hurt anyone, but there
are only so many times you can reformat your résumé. So put away your
rainbow highlighters and set aside that stack of itemized lists for a
moment to brush up on a skill you may think you mastered long ago:
mascara application. Because as you very well know, there is always room
for improvement. The proof is in these eight pro tricks that will have
you applying mascara better than you ever imagined possible.
#1) “Apply mascara on the bottom lashes first. Then apply mascara on the upper lashes, but start from the inside corner. I place the brush to the lid, curl the brush downward, then pull the brush upward.” – Freelance Makeup Artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis
#2) “Always go vertical and then flip horizontal to really get every lash and make them full.” – Celebrity Makeup Artist Elle Leary
#3) “Look down at the mirror to do the top lashes and you won’t get mascara everywhere.” – Celebrity Makeup Artist Elle Leary
#4) “Don’t lift the brush straight up; slightly lean it towards your eyelid to curl the lashes. Then brush up and out, towards the outer corner of the eye. This will create a more open, winged out effect.” – Professional Makeup Artist Megan Lanoux
#5) “Start from the root of your lashes and wiggle upwards. Wiggling your mascara wand through your lashes will give your wand that tight fit up against every lash.” – Celebrity Makeup Artist Tiffany Hall-Scarmana
#6) “Gently press on the eyelid to pop out the lashes to get as close to the lash line as possible when applying mascara.” – Professional Makeup Artist Gabriel Almodovar
#7) “Bend the brush so you can get a better angle when applying.” – Professional Makeup Artist Gabriel Almodovar
#8) “The biggest mistake women make is not conditioning their lashes prior to the application. Lancôme Cils Booster XL is the number one product to condition, strengthen and hydrate the lashes. One coat in the morning before mascara application and then one coat at night before going to bed will make your lashes healthy and silky.” – Lancôme National Makeup Artist Ricardo Costales

7.How to Find the Right Blush for Your Skin Tone
A
little rouge goes a long way. At least that’s what our grandmother
tells us and we haven’t been able to prove her wrong yet. When we brush a
dreamy pink hue across the apples of our cheeks our confidence rises.
We experience the type of excitement usually reserved for when we wear
colored eyeliner. Because mastering a bright, flushed cheek means we can
play the bashful card when our current crush says hi or simply get that
‘touched by sun’ look any day of the week.
The trick to pulling off blush the right way? Finding the right blush color for your skin tone. When you apply the wrong rouge your makeup instantly enters the clown zone. But the right color to accent your skin tone will make your Friday night makeup, and just about everything else in life, that much better. So take grandma’s words to heart, and our tips below, and you’ll be well on your way to always picking the right blush!

So take grandma’s words to heart, and our tips below, and you’ll be well on your way to always picking the right blush!
Fair Skin Tons
Fair
skinned beauties, don’t get carried away; a soft pink, peach or light
coral will enhance your porcelain skin just right. The key is light
application. Too much product, or the use of saturated hues, will create
a harsh finish reminiscent of Rocky Horror Picture Show’s Dr.
Frank-N-Furter. Avoid a stage makeup faux pas when you select the right
formula of blush for a natural, flushed cheek finish.
Medium Skin Tone
Similar
to your fair skinned friends, pinks and peaches are your best bet.
You’ll want to take these colors a step further by applying a deeper
shade of each. A rich pink, and even certain shades of mauve, will leave
you with a dramatic edge–especially when you apply blush on all the
right spots. Bonus tip, stray away from blush colors that have a bluish
undertone–if your skin tone isn’t right on point, you’ll be left with
what looks like slightly bruised cheeks.
Dark Skin Tone
Deep
shades of red, orange and brown are the ideal blush colors for those
with dark skin. These colors, unlike light powder pinks, will leave you
looking radiant instead of washed out. Try a fuchsia (think dark radiant
orchid) if your skin tone tends to be warmer; a bold tangerine if it is
cooler. By targeting the apples of your cheeks with a vibrant swipe of
one of these shades you’ll be left with a daring effect even your granny
can get behind.
8. 4 Places You Never Thought to Highlight
In
our eternal quest to reach flawless skin status, we’ve gotten to the
place where highlighting under the brow bone and the tops of cheekbones
just doesn’t do it for us anymore. Luckily, all that QT we’ve put in
with our handy dandy highlighters has paid off. We’ve discovered that
there are four places on the face that, when graced with champagne
shimmer, can transform you into the radiant beauty you’ve always known
you could be.

QT we’ve put in with our handy dandy highlighters has paid off. We’ve
discovered that there are four places on the face that, when graced with
champagne shimmer, can transform you into the radiant beauty you’ve
always known you could be.
1. Top of the forehead:
Highlighting the top of your forehead prevents the face from looking
flat (a common beauty blunder associated with too much bronzer) and
brightens up the entire face. Application here should be very sheer. Try
using a fan brush with a shimmering powder like Urban Decay Naked
Illuminated.
2. Above the eyebrow arch: You probably
already highlight below the brow. Take it one step further and highlight
above the highest point of the arch to give yourself a mini brow lift.
Using a cream formula like the highlighter end of em Cosmetics
Chiaroscuro Contour and Highlight Stick will give you the control to
target the right spot.
3. Center of the eyelid: A small
dot of highlighter right in the center of your eyelid opens up the eyes,
getting you one step closer to the illusive
eight-hours-of-sleep-sparkle. Use powder, cream or liquid luminizer to
target the area directly above the pupil and watch your eyes twinkle.
4. Center of the cupid’s bow:
Add just the tiniest amount of highlighter to the top of the V of your
cupid’s bow to create the illusion of fuller lips. Apply it with your
finger and use a soft touch. When the light catches that spot your pout
will be looking especially kissable.
9. The MDC Guide to Finding the Right Shade for Your Eyebrows
Eyebrows
are a frequent topic of discussion around the MDC offices. Fine-tuning
the shape, perfecting the arch, mastering the proper eyebrow defining
technique–we could talk brows for days. For today’s dissertation on our
favorite feature, we’re focusing on color. When selecting brow makeup,
finding the right shade is make or break. So we turned to celebrity
makeup artist Elle Leary to help us assemble this guide to finding the
right hue.
Dark Hair
In general, sticking with your natural brow color will be your best bet, but dark-haired beauties should avoid selecting a shade that’s too dark. “If you have black hair, go with dark brown. This will be more realistic and won’t give you that Sharpie effect,” notes Leary.
Light Hair
Blonds should pay extra attention to the undertones of the products they pick. Leary recommends blonds choose a color that has a little green in it. It may sound strange, but any blond who has ever walked away with brow pencil that was too warm leaving them with slightly reddish-looking eyebrows, should remember this tip.
Red Hair
Redheads have it the hardest. Leary likes to start with an auburn shade, and then go in with a medium ash color to give the brows some depth. “You want both the red and the ash,” stresses Leary. Ash is a variation of the color gray and its hue is neutral. In brow makeup, it actually makes the eyebrows look more lifelike.
And remember, the product formula you choose matters too. Leary says, “If you have a pretty full brow and just need to fill in and define, use either a shadow or brow powder.” If you have sparse brows, Leary suggests starting with a wax or pencil and then adding just a little powder as a finishing touch.

10. Flawless Face Makeup Application Tricks for Every Age
As
we age there are a few hard truths we need to accept. Our favorite
black mini doesn’t look as good as it did in our 20s. We can’t stay up
until 3 am and then rise the next morning resilient and ready to tackle
the day without caffeine. And we absolutely can not keep up with the
slang of younger generations. What we can still do is keep our makeup
looking flawless even when the rest of our life changes through the
decades. Young or old, these tried and true makeup application tricks
will help you maintain a perfect face at every age. You can call these
tips the Fountain of (Flawless Face) Youth.
Moisturize first.
Nothing
maintains a youthful glow quite like nourished skin. Before applying
any makeup enlist your favorite moisturizer, eye cream and lip balm.
This, along with primer, will set the base for your makeup and help
foundations and other creamy products look natural on your skin.
Stick with liquid concealers.
Stick with liquid concealers.
The
older we get the more fine lines develop. Those nooks are the perfect
hiding place for caked up makeup. When preparing your eyes for the
addition of color, try using a click pen liquid eye concealer. Avoiding a
wax based concealer will halt products from creeping and leave you with
silky smooth coverage.
Skimp on face powder.
Skimp on face powder.
After
applying foundation you should always lock in the product with a
powder. Makeup artist Megan Lanoux shares, “This will make it easier to
apply other powder products such as blush and/or bronzer. Powder blends
with powder more easily…sometimes if you apply blush directly over a
liquid foundation, too much of the pigment will show up.” If you’re in
your 20s or early 30s she suggests keeping pressed powder on the cheeks
to a minimum. This will keep them looking dewy and natural all through
the day.
Think up.
If
gravity begins pulling our skin (and rest of our body for that matter)
down, the last thing we want is to aid its task of taking over our
beauty routine. Gain control of your face and overall look when you
think upward. Lanoux recommends starting with your cheeks, then moving
to your eyes. “Blush should start at the apples of the cheeks and lift
at an upward angle towards the hair line. Eyeshadow should never droop
downwards.” After applying eyeshadow, run your finger from the outer
corner of your eye up to your brow to clean excess product that has
dropped below the eye.
Curl your lashes.
Curl your lashes.
Mascara
is a makeup must for many of us. Light lashes. sleepy eyes. Mascara
combats it all. But the true savior behind our glamorous, bright eyes is
our eyelash curler. Curled lashes open up the eyes leaving you with
beautiful baby blues (or greens or browns). An eyelash curler also
becomes more necessary as we age. Your lashes begin to straighten over
the years, leaving eyes closed off and lackluster. Make a quick curl
part of your routine early on and you won’t be sorry when you reach 50.
11. Quick Tip: How to Wear Bronzer in January
The
verdict is in. Yes, you can wear bronzer year-round. In fact, bronzer
is your best bet for warming up pale, sallow winter skin. There are two
fundamental aspects of bronzing to always be mindful of, and in the
middle of winter they matter more than ever: color and application. But
don’t think the same rules of your July approach apply in January. With a
few tweaks to the technique that gives you that bronzed goddess look
during the summer months, you’ll be sporting a healthy winter glow.
Color
Professional makeup artist Tim Quinn notes, “The key, of course, is to make sure that face, neck and décolletage all match – or at least appear to be all a part of the same color story.” In the winter, that means switching to a lighter bronzer. Choose one that’s just one or two shades darker than your natural skin tone. And keep the shimmer very soft. Too much of it looks unnatural and out of place this time of year. Maybelline Fit Me Bronzer and Giorgio Armani Sheer Bronzer subtly illuminate the face without looking fake.
Application
Hit the areas of the face that would normally get kissed by the sun–not all over. Quinn recommends starting at the temples, moving slightly under the cheekbones, then sweeping under the jawline and finally dusting the bridge of the nose. To avoid patchy color, use a clean makeup brush with natural-fiber bristles that will distribute pigment evenly. Be sure to tap off the excess powder before applying the color in light, swirling motions. In the winter, it’s important to pair your bronzed skin with a rosy flush on the apples of the cheeks for the most believable and balanced faux glow.

12. What Your First Beauty Buy of 2014 Says About You
You’ve
probably done your fair share of gift giving and getting over the past
couple of weeks. If you’re anything like us, that means a healthy dose
of presenting yourself with tightly wrapped packages and more obvious
Little Brown Bags. But with a new year upon us we’re changing our
ways–no more wild splurges or purchase justifications just because our
favorite brand has twenty-five percent off site-wide. Turning a new leaf
can be hard, so we’re resolving that after one last splurge we’ll close
our wallets and only swipe our debit cards when necessary (new nail
polish hues count, right?).
The first beauty buy of 2014 can speak volumes about a person–you can tell a lot about a woman by her signature nail shade, so why would her first makeup indulgence be any different? Luckily, we at MDC have a lot of practice identifying what those purchases mean; and we’ve got the skinny on what your lust for lipstick or luminizer says about you. We don’t want to call these beauty horoscopes, but we can’t deny that what we’re about to tell you may shape your year a smidge.

Lipstick:
You’re a statement maker and the risk taker amongst friends. You’ll
take a night out on the town with a few cocktails over a night in
watching New Girl any day. If your selection is a feminine berry like
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Lovelight, then you’re bound to turn
some heads and reign queen over someone’s heart. If you’re adding
another vibrant red to your stash or taking the orange lip trend to a
whole new level, then 2014 better watch out, because you’ll be wreaking
havoc all over this year.
Mascara: You’re low maintenance and all about necessity. You know that if there is one thing you never leave the house without, it’s mascara. Sure you may be trying a new wand, or seeking vampy lashes for your next photo op, but no matter your purchase purpose the fact is you enjoy focusing on life’s ‘musts’ instead of its ‘lusts’. Since you clearly understand the value of experiences, this is the year to pack your bag and explore a new land.
Beauty tools: You’re no novice. You’re experienced and like to do things by the book. You’re tactful in all that you do and don’t like getting messy. When your friends slather their evening base on with their hands you cringe a little. Whether simply picking up a new eyelash curler or investing in a MAC 168 Large Angled Contour Brush, you’ll avoid any trouble this year and look fabulous to boot.
Foundation: You’re tame and always like to put your best foot forward. A fresh start is what you’ve needed for some time and with the slate wiped clean, you can set the foundation for life’s next big move. This doesn’t mean you seek constant change, but if you’re hoping for a promotion soon, now might be the time to apply Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and head up to the big boss’s office.
Blush: You’re an optimist. You understand that a little rouge goes a long way and can brighten anyone’s mood. You take care of those around you and never ask for anything in return. Replacing your favorite shade or bringing home NARS Realm of the Senses Blush Palette, it’s time to let someone else help you–even with something as simple as outfit advice.
Perfume: You’re a chameleon and enjoy reinventing yourself with each new scent. Every time you spritz a hint of citrus you become more powerful and driven. A pump of Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb allows you to embrace classic beauty. Take these personas and make them your own this year. Whether you are keeping a deep dark secret or trying to win over potential in-laws, your fragrance will get you through it with flying colors.

13. The 7 Rules of Makeup Organization You Need to Follow
An
ever-growing cosmetic collection can be cause for celebration, yes. But
it can also lead to chaos on your bathroom counter. Lipstick rolling
onto the floor, blush spilling into the sink, missing mascara—chaos.
Over the years we’ve tried to tame the makeup mayhem that comes with
having a product obsession that simply can’t be quelled. And after many
trips to The Container Store, we’ve become quite the makeup organization
experts. Here are seven rules that will lead you to organizational
bliss.
1. Pick Drawers over counter tops.
Store
your makeup in drawers to keep it out of direct sunlight and away from
life’s inevitable little messes. This will keep your counter space
decluttered and preserve your favorite products.
2. Clean out and categorize.
2. Clean out and categorize.
There’s
no use in organizing expired makeup, so sort everything into two piles:
a save pile and a toss pile. There’s also no use in holding on to
makeup you never wear. If you can’t remember the last time you used it,
into the toss pile it goes. The save pile gets sorted into as many
categories as you need. We recommend these eight: eye shadow; eyeliner,
eye pencil and brow pencil; mascara; primer and foundation; concealer;
powder, blush and bronzer; lipstick; lip gloss and lip liner. Feeling
the urge to organize further? Split up the contents of each category by
formula: liquid, cream and powder.
3. Save space with stackable containers.
3. Save space with stackable containers.
Each
product category should get its own compartment. Pick trays and boxes
that fit together and stack easily. Bonus points if those containers are
clear. You can find clear plastic organizers at any home improvement or
beauty supply store. If you prefer the look of wooden or lacquered
plastic containers, label your trays and dividers so you know exactly
what is inside.
4. Separate out what you use regularly.
4. Separate out what you use regularly.
Store
your containers in order of what gets the most use. If you don’t wear
eye shadow on a daily basis, don’t stack that tray on top. Pull out the
products you use every day and make the top tray your “every day face.”
That way your foundation, concealer, mascara, or whatever your
essentials may be, will be easily accessible.
5. Store it so you can see it.
5. Store it so you can see it.
The
only problem with staring into a sea of lipsticks is finding the shade
you’re looking for. Store lipstick upside down so you can read the color
name on the bottom. The same principle applies to powders, shadows and
compacts. If the top is clear, store them right side up. If not, flip
them over so you can see the label. Avoid stacking individual products
on top of each other so you don’t have to dig for the shade you want.
6. Sort your brushes.
6. Sort your brushes.
Brushes
get divided into two categories: face and eyes. Keeping them separate
will save you from losing your eyeliner brush in the bristles of your
fluffy powder brushes. Store them standing upright in jars. Fill the
bottom of each jar with coffee beans, rice or pebbles so the brush heads
won’t touch each other.
7. Edit often.
7. Edit often.
Every
six months or so, go through and edit out expired products and makeup
you haven’t used since your last edit. Once a month, go through your
trays and move those eye shadows–that have mysteriously taken up
residency in the blush tray–back to their rightful home. Your monthly
sweep is also the perfect time to
14. 1-Minute Makeover: Instant Glow
As
the season of overindulgence in salt, sugar, and champagne comes to a
close, “glowing” may not be a word you would choose to describe your
complexion. You can’t expect your skin to instantly bounce back from
long travel days, minimal sleep, and the NYE extravaganza you just put
it through. But you can bring back that luminous glow with this quick
fix.
Step 1: Add Warmth
When your complexion is feeling dull, your first instinct may be to cover it up with full coverage foundation. Fight that urge. Even if you’re not particularly impressed with its current condition, you still want your skin to shine through—just give it a little color first. Mix a small amount of bronzing gel in with your moisturizer. Try The Body Shop Honey Bronzing Gel for Face or Dr. Hauschka Translucent Bronze Concentrate for a subtle hint of warmth.
Step 2: Illuminate
Step two is the real ticket to ditching that worn out by winter look. Layers of highlighters and bronzers can look heavy this time of year, and frankly, when it comes to our winter makeup routine we’re all in favor of taking the cliff notes approach. Take a few seconds to add a drop or two of liquid luminizer to your tinted moisturizer or light coverage foundation. It will boost the complexion perfecting powers of your foundation and give you a little luminosity all over. If you’re fair skinned try L’Oréal Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer or Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer in 7. Darker skin tones can use a luminizer that’s slightly more golden, like Yves Saint Laurent Dare to Glow in Tempting Gold or Stila All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer in Bronze Shimmer.

15.How to Streamline Your Makeup Bag
For
the beauty product obsessed, it’s typical to have drawers and bins
overflowing with endless lipsticks, blushes, and impulse purchases.
Knowing what products are best to use, and how to use them is key when
organizing your makeup bag for everyday living. Here are my tips on how
to streamline your makeup bag and set you up for success, one
application at a time.
1. To keep or not to keep? If you have to ask yourself if you should hang on to a particular product, chances are it is time to part ways. Get rid of products you haven’t used in quite some time to make room for new ones that you know will be a better investment.
2. Is it supposed to smell like that? Chances are, the answer is no. When makeup starts to expire one of the first things to change is the smell. For instance, lipsticks that start to smell like crayons or have a very waxy odor to them are definitely expired. If your drawers are overflowing with products, try the smell test. This is very helpful for weeding out things you shouldn’t keep.
3. Pick your staples. Always have a few products you know you will use everyday. For instance, some great staple products are: foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush, mascara and lip balm or lipstick. Keeping these products in your favorite shades in a bag you can throw in your purse is the easiest and most effortless way to have your go-to kit all in one place.

16. Holiday Tutorial: New Year’s Eve Beauty
Oh,
New Years Eve – we look to you with excitement, joy and just a little
bit of apprehension. You mark the start of a brand new year and a world
of possibilities in life and love, but you yourself are a force to be
reckoned with. We’ll just come out and admit that our relationship with
you is usually centered around one thing (champagne) and you haven’t
always been forgiving to us the morning after. Nevertheless, we don our
glitter and most festive apparel every year in celebration of you and
the fresh start you represent. For those of you ringing in the New Year
with a bang this year, why not give this pretty, shimmery look a try?
“This look is very romantic,” says MDC’s resident makeup maven Ashley
Rebecca. “I imagine a woman in Paris wearing this look. It’s soft
enough to wear during the daytime; for night, just add a bolder lip. The
overall effect is very festive, pretty and feminine.” Ashley uses
items from the Holiday Look 2013 collection from Yves Saint Laurent to
create a gorgeous, NYE-ready final effect – proving that you can have
your champagne and drink it too.
Directions:
1. Prime your lid with eyeshadow primer to keep your shadow in place.
1. Prime your lid with eyeshadow primer to keep your shadow in place.
2.
Sweep a shimmery purple eyeshadow over your entire lid and in your
crease. Ashley used a shade from Yves Saint Laurent Pure Chromatics
Palette Avenue Marceau.
3. Add a light gold shadow to the inner corners of your eye and under your brow bone to highlight.
4. Blend a pop of light pink into the center of your lid.
5.
Line the inner rims of your eyes with black eyeliner and finish with a
swipe of volumizing mascara, like Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume
Effet Faux Cils Baby Doll in Fetish Black.
6.
To give a pretty glow, Ashley brushed Yves Saint Laurent Rue de
Babylone Radiant Blush Palette on the apples of her cheeks. “When
applying blush, start at apple of check and go upwards – never go down,”
advises Ashley. “This sculpts the shape of the cheek for you, enhances
your cheekbones and gives highlighting effect.”
7.
For the final step, swipe on a purple-hued gloss stain to pull the look
together. Ashley used Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain
Rebel Nudes in 104.
17. 3 Ways to Look More Radiant this Winter

It’s
cold outside, the air is dry (your skin is drier) and you’re kind of
just feeling a little lackluster. Hibernation is sounding pretty good
right about now, but alas—life goes on, even in below freezing
temperatures. When you have to put on a brave face and face the world
outside of your cozy apartment, don’t let winter dullness get you down.
Look and feel more radiant by focusing all your beauty efforts on just
one feature.
On the eyes…
Say it with us now…shimmer. ‘Tis the season, right? As long as there’s snow glistening on the streets, there’s no reason your eyes shouldn’t shine just as brightly. Choose a subtle shade of pink, lilac, champagne or ivory and apply a wash of shimmer over your eyelids that spills into the inner corners of your eyes. Try Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Intense Eyeshadow in Rock Sand or Benefit Cosmetics Creaseless Cream Shadow in Always a Bridesmaid.
On the cheeks…
Play up those cheekbones with a bright blush. A nice pop of color on the apples brings warmth and life to the face in way that no bronzer could accomplish in the dead of winter. Choose a cream formula to give the skin just a hint of a dewy glow. We love Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Hot Tamale and RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Beloved.
On the lips…
Nothing looks more radiant than a bright smile. Find a hue you adore, wear it proudly and flash those pearly whites all the way through winter. Make that hue one with a blue undertone to help those pearly whites look even whiter. And don’t forget to line your lips first, so your chosen tint stays in place through all those hot toddies.

18. 5 Ways to Make Your Beauty Look More Festive
Shine Bright Like a Diamond:
Illuminate!
Adding liquid or cream illuminator to your foundation and cheekbones
can give your skin an instant lift and radiance. This is a great tip to
use during the colder winter months when you start feeling the weather
is making your skin look and feel lack-luster.
Cue your Hues:
Cue your Hues:
Matching
a bright lip color with the same nail color is a great way to add
subtle pops of color to your look without going over the top. A great
holiday pink or red tone looks great on lips and nails, and doesn’t send
the message you spent hours trying to coordinate.
Flash Your Lash:
Flash Your Lash:
Let
your eyelashes be the center of conversation by trying a mascara color
other than black. Applying blue, green, and aubergine colored mascaras
are a great way to elevate your look instantly and leave people
wondering how you pulled off a makeup trick so unique with little
effort.
Amp the Vamp:
Amp the Vamp:
Let
the only drama this year at the holiday company party be on your lips.
Bring out the oxblood, deep berries and darker lipstick colors for a
spin! Playing with deeper lip colors can add dimension and even
accentuate your eye color!
Wink, Don’t Blink:
Wink, Don’t Blink:
False
eyelashes are a great way to elevate your look in the blink of an eye,
but need time and practice for perfection. A few nights before your big
debut, practice putting lashes on to get the lines perfect, not blurred.
Pro Tip: Instead of using white lash glue, opt for black instead which
makes the lashes look completely seamless.
19. Video: The Busy Girl’s Guide – Brow Shaping in 5 Minutes
We’ve
said it before and we’ll undoubtedly say it again, shapely eyebrows are
an essential component of any–scratch that–every beauty look. The
eyebrows frame your entire face and when properly maintained can make
you look younger. The color and fullness of your brows is entirely up to
you. You may be a “bigger, bolder the better type” of girl. Or you may
prefer a soft and natural look. Whatever your preference, a little
grooming is always in order. One glimpse at the impeccable eyebrows of
beauty vlogger Brittany Balyn and we knew exactly what the topic of our
next Busy Girl’s Guide video tutorials was going to be. Watch as she
shows us how to get the perfect shape in five minutes or less.
20. 3 Easy Ways to Enhance Your Eyes This Holiday Season
This
is the time of year when people pull out all the stops–the lips get
bolder, the skin gets more luminous and the eyes range from seriously
smoky to glitter encrusted. Yes, it’s the eyes that really become the
focus of festive holiday dressing. But the holidays can get hectic and
settling down in front the mirror with a collection of metallic shadows
just may not be an option for you. We get it, but there’s no reason you
have to holiday party hop in your standard workday makeup. You can
enhance your eyes even as you’re dashing out the door with any one of
these quick and easy techniques.
Make Your Waterline Pop
Lining
your waterline is the quickest trick to take your look from day to
night. During the holiday season though, why not get even more oomph out
of your eyeliner? One festive option is to add a high pigment shade of
blue, green or gold to just the lower waterline. Urban Decay 24/7
Glide-On Eye Pencils, em Michelle Phan Cosmetics Waterliners and Lime
Crime Eyeliners will pop against the whites of your eyes (and last well
past cocktail hour). If you just want the intensity, a good smudging of
black will also make your eyes smolder.
Up Your Mascara Game
Basic
black mascara is never going away, but an easy way to add interest to
the eyes and complement the color of your pretty peepers is to swipe on
colored mascara. Use Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils
Waterproof in Signature Violet or Majorelle Blue to coat just the tips
of the top and bottom eyelashes. Or go all out with Sephora Collection
Glitter Eyeliner and Mascara and your eyelashes will be twinkling in the
twinkle lights all night long.
Get Frosty
When
all else fails, never underestimate what highlighting the brow bone,
inner corners of the eyes and the center of the eyelids can do to
enhance your existing eye makeup. Champagne and pale peachy pinks are
the obvious go-to’s, but use this time of year as an opportunity to take
it a step further. Choose a frosty shade like Jouer Highlighter in
Camellia or Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Intense Eyeshadow in White Punch
and build up the shimmer until your eyes shine brighter than the fresh
blanket of snow outside.
21. 5 Beauty Tricks for Traveling Pretty This Holiday
1. The cotton ball compact trick
Ever
opened your makeup bag after a long trip only to find your shadows and
blushes broken and shattered? We teared up a bit now just thinking about
it. Bags and suitcases get jostled during car rides (and don’t even get
us started on turbulence), so keep your makeup shatter-free with this
simple tip: before packing up your makeup, just place a cotton ball or
cotton pad (whichever fits best) on top of your eyeshadows, blushes and
palettes before snapping the lid closed. The cotton ball acts like an
extra layer of protection and will protect your prized palettes from
shattering from impact during transit. (If they do end up breaking,
don’t worry – we’ve got you covered).
2. Get misty
The
easiest way to give tired, travel-worn skin an instant pick me up is
with a facial mist. A quick spritz will refresh your face and leave you
looking dewy and radiant, instead of tired and irritable (it’s not your
fault the toddler sitting behind you thought your chair was a
kickstand). We love Shu Uemura Depsea Water Facial Mist for a
refreshing, relaxing skin treat.
3. Powder your tresses
If
you’ve ever flown on a plane, you’ve experienced the horror of we like
to call PPH, otherwise known as “post-plane hair” – flat, lifeless,
mangy, dull…you get the idea. Since the TSA bans all aerosol cans in
carry-ons, your favorite hair spray can do you no good. But that doesn’t
mean your tresses are doomed – instead, why not try a powder dry
shampoo? Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo is a cult favorite; in a pinch,
baby powder will work as well. Go into the airplane bathroom and
massage the powder into your scalp – you’ll emerge with bouncy, lively
locks and be ready to face whatever crazy antics your in-laws have in
store.
4. Skip the foundation
The
general rule of thumb while traveling is that lighter is better – this
applies to your face as well. Heavy foundation can melt off your face
during a long flight or car ride, or even dry out and cake around the
edges. Instead, moisturize thoroughly the night before so your skin is
well hydrated and in the AM, swap your foundation for a tinted
moisturizer or BB Cream like Maybelline Dream Fresh BB or Urban Decay
Naked Skin Beauty Balm. Once your skin breathes easy, you can too.
5. Cool it
Your
best friend during holiday traveling? Anything cold. At your next rest
stop, grab a cold drink and press it to your eyes to decrease any
puffiness and hide signs of fatigue – the icy temperature will help firm
and tighten the skin around your eyes, as well as spread out any excess
water retention on your face. If you’re on a flight, ask for a cup of
ice to do the same – you’ll instantly feel refreshed and renewed.
22. The Dos and Don’ts of Holiday Makeup
Tis’
the season of fun and festive parties, shiny wrapped packages for gift
giving and endless amounts of fancy dresses and gorgeous makeup! Knowing
how to play up your look for the occasion is key, ensuring you’ll be
perfectly on top of your beauty game for every social setting. Here are
my professional makeup artist dos and don’ts of holiday makeup:
Do: experiment with something different. Whether you’ve always wanted to try fake eyelashes, or a bright red lipstick, the holidays are the time to try something new. Not sure if you’ll like it? Practice makes perfect. Always test your new look out first before your big debut, ensuring you will look and feel your best.
Don’t: go overboard with glitter. A little sparkly shadow on the eyelids is an easy way to dress up your eye makeup in less than 10 seconds. Keep the shimmer nice and compact on the lids, and not on the cheeks or lips. Opt for liquid or cream illuminating makeup if you want to highlight your other features.
Do: play with liquid liner. One of the most beautiful and iconic holiday makeup looks involves winged liquid eyeliner. If you have been afraid to try this in the past, tackle your fears and start practicing now! As a makeup artist myself, I had to practice this technique over and over until I got it perfect. Start practicing a few nights before your holiday party to get in the spirit. Need a refresher? Check out this easy winged eyeliner tutorial.
Don’t: get too cheeky with bright cream blush. The cold, winter months can leave our skin looking dull and dry. Cream blush is an excellent way to add extra radiance and color at the same time. If choosing a brighter color, make sure you blend, blend, and blend on the cheeks until it looks natural and smooth. The key is starting with a light touch and softly adding pigment as you go. This will eliminate patchy areas and doll-like pink cheeks.
Do: take your time. Trying a new makeup look for the holidays is no fun if you’re rushing. Create an experience, put on your favorite playlist, light a dreamy scented candle and view your face as the perfect canvas. Have just as much fun putting on your makeup as wearing it!
Don’t: go to sleep without washing your face properly. Make sure that you remove everything before beauty sleep, from fake eyelashes to lipstick. This will keep your skin healthy and blemish free. Use a deep hydrating moisturizer to keep your skin healthy through the cold winter months.

23.5 Beauty Tips to Help You Look Fantastic in Holiday Photos
Bring
out the champagne flutes – holiday season is officially upon us. It’s
around this time that our social calendars suddenly seem to fill to the
brim; one weekend it’s a white elephant gift exchange, the next, it’s
crazy Aunt Greta’s annual Christmas soiree. Whatever the occasion may
be, you can bet on one thing – there will be pictures…lots of them. To
make sure you look back on this year’s holiday photos with fondness and
not regret (we’ve all experienced the horror of seeing lipstick on our
teeth post-photo op…not a good feeling), we’re sharing 5 of our favorite
photo-ready beauty tricks. Now all you have to do is practice your
smize…
1. Curb shine
Nothing
ruins a perfectly good photo than a bad case of shine – we’d like that
word to be used to describe our hair and not our foreheads, thanks! Use a
mattifying primer like The Body Shop Skin Primer Matte It before
applying foundation to control that telltale sheen; after foundation,
finish off with a light dusting of setting powder (we’re fans of Giorgio
Armani Micro-Fil Loose Powder). If you have advance warning, excuse
yourself to the ladies room and use a blotting paper like Neutrogena
Shine-Control Blotting Sheets to soak up any excess oil.
2. Hint of sparkle
Look
bright-eyed and awake in every photo by enlisting the help of an
unexpected beauty tool – glitter. It is the holiday season after all, so
take this opportunity to flaunt that sparkly silver liner you’ve been
eyeing; not only will it help you look especially festive, but it will
also make your eyes pop in every photo. If glitter eyeliner sounds a bit
too dramatic for you, try a more subtle approach by dabbing a shimmery
loose powder like MAC Pigment in White in the inner corners of your eyes
and along your bottom waterline instead.
3. Choose the right red
If
you’re flaunting a red lip, make sure to choose a shade with blue
undertones – it will make your teeth look whiter and brighter photos. We
love the creamy feel of Yves Saint Lauren Rouge Pur Couture in Le Rouge
for a picture-perfect pout; if you’re more of a stain gal, try tarte
LipSurgence Matte Lip Stain in Fiery.
4. Illuminate
Get
glowing and highlight your best features in front of your snap-happy
friends by dusting your favorite luminizer in the center of your
forehead, down the bridge of your nose and above the apples of your
cheeks (instant cheekbones, check!). Use a powder version like Lancôme
Blush Subtil in Shimmer Rose Douceur if you’re a beginner – it’s the
easiest and quickest to apply and will give you a subtle glow instead of
contribute to unwanted shine.
5. Keep the volume
Flat,
lifeless hair sits at the top of our list of no-no’s when it comes to
looking fab in photos this holiday season. To boost shine, apply a
super-moisturizing hair mask a night or two before (Kérastase Masque
Chroma Riche will soften dry locks and leave you with shiny, silky
strands). Avoid doing hair masks hours before your event – though
moisturizing, they can weigh your hair down and make it harder to style.
When choosing a picture-perfect hairstyle, repeat after us: volume,
volume, volume. Avoid a bad case of hat hair by applying a volumizing
spray like Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray or Ojon Volume Advance
Volumizing Styling Spray to damp hair before blow-drying. Tease your
roots with a wide-toothed comb and finish off with a spritz of
texturizing spray to keep your hair beautifully bouncy throughout the
night. And don’t forget to give your hair a little fluff before the
flash goes off!
24.Warm Winter Eyeshadow
Crisp
air, pumpkin pie, cozy scarves…. there’s plenty to love about winter’s
arrival and one of my favorite perks of the changing season is
inspiration to try a fresh beauty look. To offer some inspiration, I
created an eyeshadow tutorial with warm winter colors. Check out the
step by step below, and leave me your thoughts in the comments!
1. Prime:
Always start your application with a primer. It keeps your eye shadow
from getting that annoying creasy look and also makes your shadow easier
to blend. For this look I used Urban Decay Primer Potion.
2. Base Color: Using a flat brush apply a champagne color shadow from lash line to crease. Use a clean blender brush to sweep back and forth across the crease to soften edges. I used the color “Sin” from the Urban Decay Naked palette.
3. Crease Color: Choose a medium warm brown (a brown that has a red hue to it) shadow and a fluffy blender brush to “windshield wipe” the shadow across the crease of the eye. I used the color “Buck” from the Urban Decay Naked palette. Next, apply a darker shade of brown to the outer crease using circular strokes to blend. I used the shade “Hustle” from the Urban Decay Naked palette.
4. Add Warmth: Using a finishing brush apply a light wash of orange shadow to the brow bone just above the crease color. I used the color “Persia” from NARS.
5. Eyeliner: Apply gel eyeliner to the top lash line with an angle brush creating a round shape over the eye. You can stop there or continue by creating a small wing. For the bottom of the eye gently sweep a soft brown pencil into lashes and blend with a smudger brush. For this look I used Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner on the top lash and Trish McEvoy Aubergine Gel Pencil on the bottom.
6. Lashes: Finish off your look with your favorite mascara or lashes! I used House of Lashes “Hollywood Glam” for this look to create a flirty affect.

25. 4 Makeup Artist Tips for Applying Your Eyeliner Better
If
you’ve ever watched makeup artists work their magic, you know they have
all little tricks that make everything they do look infinitely better.
Such techniques might appear to come as second nature to the pros, but
to us regular folk…it’s a different story, especially when it comes to
eyeliner. To help us achieve the flawless eyeliner application of our
dreams, we called up the experts and got them to spill their tricks of
trade.
1. Get super close to the lash line
This
is one of the biggest eyeliner challenges. If you don’t get close
enough to the lash line, you lose the intensity you were trying to
create with eyeliner. Professional makeup artist Colleen Runne says,
“Always make sure to get close to the lash line leaving no gaps. Just
lift up the eyelid to get super close.” Runne also recommends using a
wider, flat brush to get the eyeliner right where you want it.
2. Make it glide on smoothly
2. Make it glide on smoothly
To
get a soft, clean liner look, Lancôme national makeup artist Ricardo
Costales says to first apply a thin layer of eye shadow. This will help
the eyeliner will glide on, allowing you create a soft line. “It also
makes the eyeliner last longer without giving you a harsh look.”
3. Don’t apply in a line
Creating
the perfect line in one sweep is hard; Runne knows a better way. “A lot
of women think they have to make one, single line with the eyeliner,
rather, you can do a series of small strokes across the lash line. A
connect-the-dots kind of thing.” You’ll make fewer mistakes and end up
with a more even application.
4. Change it, without starting over
You
can switch things up and take your look from day to night with one
simple addition. Costales says “To change an eyeliner look without
redoing your makeup, apply a bold or brighter shadow on top of your
brown or black liner, mixing it together to create an edgy more dramatic
look.”
26. 3 Grown Up Ways to Wear Lip Gloss
There
was a time when you couldn’t tear us away from the shiniest (and most
likely stickiest) lip gloss around. Morning, noon and night–plus several
applications in between–we never let our favorite tubes out of our
sight. As we’ve matured, however, we’ve learned to save our super
high-gloss looks for special events and those statement-making moments.
But that doesn’t mean we’ve given up on the slick stuff all together.
No, we’d never do that; we’ve just turned to these grown up ways to wear
lip gloss.
Just a Dab in the Center
Bold
candy apple red lips that shine like freshly polished silver scream
holiday party, but for Wednesday morning meetings we like to keep our
look slightly more subdued. One of the best ways to wear lip gloss can
be summed up in one word: sparingly. Add a dab of a light shade with
just a hint of shimmer to the center of your lips and watch the illusion
of a plumper pout occur instantly. Currently, we’re loving this Lancôme
Color Fever Gloss.
Matte Lip Gloss
For
the beauty girl who loves her gloss, but lusts after a chic matte
finish, matte lip gloss is the best of both worlds. We’re always on
board for product that delivers the ease of a gloss minus the potential
mess factor. We love the velvet texture Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro and
the soft matte finish of Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Cream. Who says we
can’t have it all?
Glossy Stain
One
of the great caveats of lip gloss is the staying power. Luckily we’re
living in the age of cosmetic genius, and it’s no longer a pipe dream to
get all the sheen of a gloss plus the long-wear of a stain. Yves Saint
Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Vernis Á Lévres Glossy Stain and L’Oréal
Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain feel weightless on the lips and shine on
for hours.
27. How to Tightline Your Eyes
Tightlining
is that mysterious eyeliner technique everyone talks about, but few can
really explain. So mysterious in fact, it’s often called invisible
eyeliner. Truth be told, that moniker actually refers to the ever-so
subtle appearance of a tightlined eye. Tightlining is championed in the
beauty world for its ability to create the illusion of fuller, darker
lashes and add definition to the eyes, all the while maintaining a
no-makeup feel. Today the illusive technique remains illusive no more.
You
can use any gel, cream or pencil eyeliner (the consistency of liquid is
generally too wet for this technique); we used Urban Decay 24/7
Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero. The brush is the important part. You need
an angled or flat eyeliner brush. You’ll want one with bristles that are
soft, yet sturdy because you need to be able to control the brush. Try
Giorgio Armani Eye Liner Brush or Laura Mercier Flat Eye Liner Brush.
1.
Use your finger to lift up your eyelid so you can see the base of your
lash line. That’s where you are going to be depositing the pigment.
Quick Tip: It helps to position your mirror so you are looking down
slightly during the application.
2. Then fill your brush with
eyeliner and press it directly onto the waterline. Using short strokes
wiggle the brush back and forth to really work the product in to the
underside of your lash line.
That’s it! You’ve filled the gap
between your lashes and liner. Either apply liner on top of the lash
line for an all-around flawless eyeliner application, or simply curl
your lashes and be on your way–looking every bit the natural beauty you
are.
28.5 Makeup Artist Tips for Wearing Holiday Metallics
Gingerbread
men, festive decor, a legitimate excuse to wear anything that
sparkles…so many reasons to love the holidays. There’s no better season
to let your eyes shine. To put that twinkle in your eye, we tracked down
celebrity makeup artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis who gave us her best
tips for rocking metallics.
1. Prep Under the Eye
Of
the many reasons to love metallic, the potential mess factor is not one
of them. To avoid extra work after application, Gomez-Duplessis always
preps under the eye first using shadow shields, little self-adhesive
half moons that catch falling pigment.
2. Keep it from Creasing
Creasing
shadow can kill a major metallic moment. Gomez-Duplessis keeps metallic
shadows from shifting or creasing by priming the eyelid with either an
eye shadow primer or cream concealer. Be sure to set it with loose
powder for extra staying power.
3. Try it Wet
Looking
for a little extra spice this holiday season? Gomez-Duplessis says,
“Use a clear lip gloss on the lid for that sexy wet shine rocker look.”
That touch of gloss will also help keep your shadow in place.
4. Go Big
If
you’re going to go metallic, you’ve just got to go for it. “The best
look is going sultry when wearing metallic eye shadow.” Dress up the
look with smoldering eyeliner and lots of lashes.
5. Balance it out
According
to Gomez-Duplessis, it’s all about complementing the eyes. “To finish
the look, skip the blush, contour the cheek and illuminate the skin.
Then gloss up the lip with a sheer color and your ready to shine
brightly at any party or event.”

Dish soap: Are you wondering how to clean makeup brushes with dish soap? Well it is rather simple. All you need to do is mix one teaspoon each of dish soap and olive oil in 3-4 tablespoons of cool water. Work-up a lather in the solution with the brush. Once clean run the brush under cool water and wipe dry with a paper towel.
Baby Shampoo: Makeup brushes are delicate items that require gentle care. What could be better than baby shampoo? Rinse the brushes in lukewarm water to remove all residues. Dilute a squirt of baby shampoo in a bowl of warm water. Work up a lather and rinse. You might have to repeat the process a couple of times if required. Wipe with a paper towel or a lint free cloth.
Vinegar: Vinegar is a wonderful cleaning agent that works in almost all areas. When wondering how to clean makeup brushes at home the easiest thing that comes to mind is vinegar. In a bowl of hot water mix a tablespoon of vinegar. Allow the brushes to stand in it for around 15-20 minutes. Bits of makeup will soon dissolve in the solution. Rinse in hot water and then in cold water. Allow the brushes to dry.
Describing how to clean makeup brushes also requires a mentioning of how to dry them. If not dried properly the brushes may lose shape and all the washing effort may go in vain. Make sure to dry the brushes on a brush stand or something similar. The brushes should stand upside down with the bristles not touching the base. While the water will drip down the brushes will fall back in to shape
Best Oils To Darken Hair :-
Hair is made up of protein and gets its natural pigmentation because of the presence of a pigment called melanin. It is chemically impossible to make melanin colourless. One of the main reasons why hair loses its colour is due to constant exposure to the harsh sun.
The harmful rays of the sun can bleach your hair and strip it of its melanin pigments. This causes the hair to assume a faded colour and texture. Another reason for loss of hair colour is the process of greying. But greying is not a phenomenon restricted only to the middle aged. Even youngsters have started getting affected by premature graying these days.
We can try to retain the natural colour of our hair by using oils that can darken the colour of your hair. Given below are a few oils that can darken your hair with consistent and regular use.
Castor Oil
Castor oil is one of the best oils that can be used to combat almost all hair problems. It is also an oil that darkens your hair. Castor oil is excellent for protecting your hair from all the factors that would adversely damage it. It can be used to protect your hair from sun damage and loss of colour. If you regularly treat your hair with castor oil, it will cause your hair to darken. It also causes new hair to grow which will be of a darker shade.

Henna and Coconut Oil
Henna when used with coconut oil is an excellent way to darken your hair. You can boil henna leaves and strain the water out. Mix this with coconut oil and store in a cool location. Regular application of this oil will darken the colour of your hair, although your hair will acquire a reddish hue. Coconut oil is also good for darkening the colour of your hair and making it lustrous and healthy.
Mustard Oil
Since mustard oil is loaded with vitamins and minerals, it gives intensive nourishment to the hair and aids in hair growth. It also keeps the hair healthy and protected. But mustard oil is also used to darken the colour of the hair. Regular use of mustard oil leaves you with thicker, stronger and darker hair.
Hibiscus Oil
Regular use of hibiscus oil on hair is the reason most Indian women have gorgeously black, flowing hair. Hibiscus oil is one of the best oil that darkens hair. The main reason why people use hibiscus oil is to darken their hair. When your hair becomes a brownish or reddish colour due to prolonged exposure to the sun, use hibiscus oil to regain the lustrous black shade of your hair.

Ways To Groom Your Eyebrows:-
A lot of us women, who deal with make-up every day, do not pay much attention to the eye-brows. But, if you didn't know already there is a lot that you can do with ‘em brows and make them look like perfect arches that add a natural glow to the face.
Getting a pro touch would cost you a fortune, but you can beautify them easily with these best ways to groom your eyebrows.
To begin with, brush each brow upwards and then use a brow scissors to snip the ends of long hair. Now, brush downwards and trim any number of long hair you find. Trimming the hair before you start tweezing will reveal the real shape of the brow, remove the extra bulk and weight so that you can create, all by yourself, the shape that you want.
Know how to shape the eyebrows by holding a pencil just parallel to the side of the nose's bridge. The inner edge of the eyebrows must start from here. To tell where the highest point of the arch is, place the pencil parallel to the outer corners of the iris. Now, angle the pencil diagonally from the nostril to the outer corner of the eye to tell where the brow should ideally end.
To get things right before you forget, mark the areas of the brow just how you mapped it and begin tweezing or waxing as per your preference. To make sure that your eyes look naturally beautiful, do not remove more than two rows of hair. You may have to pull out a few hair form the outer edges of the top eyebrow to give a sliding effect. If you are a proud owner of thick brows, you could remove an additional row to create a well-pronounced arch.
Important tips
When women do the tweezing by themselves, they end up removing too many rows of hair, giving themselves anorexic eyebrows. If the same has happened with you, fatten them up by colouring up sparse areas with a brow pencil.
If you aren't sure what arch-shaping method you should use, prefer tweezing. Tweezing will work even better if you do not have a lot of hair that needs to be removed. Waxing is for those who have naturally bushy or dark eye brows that tend to grow back faster. You could also use waxing to clean up extra hair.

What Is Hair Spa:-
Spa treatments were earlier available only at five star hotels, now it is available everywhere. With the tight, hectic and tiring schedule of today’s life, it is difficult for people to spend too many days to rejuvenate and relax. Spas are a quick fix option for people who wish to relax and rejuvenate.
Earlier spas were concentrating on body; slowly they started treatments for the hair too. Hair spas were exclusively developed to deal with hair problems like dandruff, dry hair, scalp conditions, hair loss, etc.
Hair spa helps in recovery of the shine and moisture in the hair, which is lost due to pollution and dryness.
• Ideally, a hair spa involves oil massage of the scalp, shampooing and conditioning.
• It starts with oiling the scalp and the hair, oiling and massaging is necessary to reduce hair fall and bring a shine in the hair.
• This is followed by shampooing. Scalp is massaged for at least 10 minutes during shampooing.
• After shampooing, conditioning treatment is done. A deep conditioning mask is applied and it is massaged for 20 -25 minutes. Then a cream is applied from the root of the hair to the tip.
• It may take around one hour for this treatment at a salon.
• Hair spa treatment is said to be best for those, who are facing hair loss and those with dull and damaged hair. This treatment claims to arrest hair fall and regain the lost sheen and bounce of the hair. Even hair problems, like, dandruff, itchy scalp, etc., can be reduced with this treatment.
Hair spa treatment cost may vary from one salon to another. It will be better to do a comparative study of the quality of treatment, cost and expertise of the different salons, before choosing the one that is best suited for you. If the salon hair spa treatment does not fit in your budget, you may also opt for a homemade hair spa treatment, that too at a very less cost.
In short, hair spa can work wonders for your hair, especially, if it is dull and damaged. It can also relieve you from a wide range of hair problems.

2. How to do Hair Spa :-
Hair Spa is the best way to maintain and enhance the beauty of ones hair. Hair spa repairs the damaged hair and gives it a new shine. Most of us spend lot of money and time in beauty salons to get the hair of our choice. Hair Spa includes four easy steps
Massaging
Shampooing
Applying hair mask
Conditioning
Procedure to do hair spa
Oil massage - Massage your hair and scalp gently with your finger tips with olive oil or almond oil for 10 minutes to prevent dryness. Massaging will reduce hair fall and give shine to your hair.
Shampoo - After massaging your hair, you have to shampoo your hair. Apply shampoo on your scalp and hair smoothly and gently with your finger tips for 5-6 minutes and let it stay for 2-3 minutes. Wash your hair with lukewarm or cold water as hot water makes the scalp dry. Always use a mild shampoo as per your hair type.
Conditioning - Third step involves applying hair conditioner. Cover your hair with a thin layer of conditioner and let it stay for 4-5 minutes and then wash your hair with cold or lukewarm water. Conditioning is essential to make hair soft.
Hair mask - The last step in hair spa involves applying a hair mask. After applying hair mask, steam your hair by wrapping your scalp with a towel dipped in warm water to steam. Let the hair mask on your hair of about an hour and then wash your hair with cold water. Let your hair dry naturally and comb your hair with a hair brush with thick bristles.
Hair spa can be done at home or can be done at a spa too. If you wish to save money and time then you can try the above process at the comforts of your home.
How To Save Money On Salons:-
Visiting the beauty salon has become mandatory for many women. It has become a part of the want list rather than the need list. However salons that offer good quality service and products are priced high, how do we handle the high price tags?
Use coupons to save money at your salon visits
Look out for discount coupons, now a days the newspapers and internet is flooded with discount coupons from big name salons
Learn to color your own hair
Use high-end salons only for special occasions
Learn maintenance tasks, like trimming your bangs, to extend the period between salon visits
Skip the blow dry
Shampoo your hair at home before visiting the parlor
After applying color or henna get back home to wash hair
Oil hair at home regularly so that you can skip extensive oil massages at the salon
Choose to work with junior staff rather than specialists, specialists tend to charge more than the amateurs
Stick on to the services that you need and do not get tempted by the other services offered there.
Get membership cards if they have the facility and avail of the offers.
A few salons have discounts during their off-peak hours; try to hit the salon during those hours.
Highlight your hair instead of coloring the entire length, it costs you less
Use semi permanent hair colors rather than permanent colors as they tend to fade gradually and not too quickly
Use color protecting shampoo for colored hair so that the color from hair does not fade off too quickly
Apply a top coat on your finger and toe nails so as to maintain the effects of the manicure and pedicure
All About Summer Hair Care
Most of us have a misconception that we lose more hair in winter than in summer; however far to the contrary most of lose more hair in summer due to the hot summer air that causes not only damage to the scalp, but also to the hair. Summer hair care can prove to be very important considering the loss of hair due to the ultra-violet rays of the sum that are harmful to hair health and cause graying of hair and dry and brittle hair.
Summer hair health care involves following certain tips like:
The first step lies in blocking the ultra-violet rays from causing damage to hair; this involves wearing caps, hats and scarves that are used loosely to not restrict the supply of blood in the scalp. I would strongly advise other methods like the use of benzophenones or cinnamates that act as a SPF for your hair. As an alternative it would be great to leave a conditioner and sunscreen on the hair before leaving for outdoors to prevent damage caused due to ultra-violet rays, however I would say that our hair should be washed well after returning back home.
Swimming and enjoying ourselves in the beach has always been most loved activities during summer to keep cool; however chlorine present in pool water and salt present in sea water could dry the hair and cause split ends. It has been observed that dry hair is more prone to hair damage than wet hair; dry hair soaks in most chemical in the water faster. Soaking the hair in non chlorinated water before going for a swim or bath in the beach helps when complemented with washing it soon after with a clarifying shampoo to wash off chlorine and salt residues.
I have heard many of my hair beauty conscious friends reveal their hair care secret; they say that they never use hair care techniques that direct heat towards the hair during the summer. The use of most favorite beauty tools like hair dryers and curling hair directly on the hair causes irreparable damage to the hair and had the same effect as the UV rays of the sun. Beauty tools that blow hot air have the effect of damaging the cuticles of the hair and dry them up, making them susceptible to split ends and breakages especially in summer. I would say that it is always best to not hot air dry hair before styling but instead air dry it to provide protection the follicles.
The same principle applies to taking a hair bath with hot water during summer; hot water dries hair and increases fall of hair. Some beauty conscious family members have always advised me to shampoo my hair only a few times in a week and to use a good conditioner. The use of beauty hair products that contain the silicone ingredient dimethicone proves useful; to protect the hair cuticle and lock in moisture in the hair. The use of a deep conditioner with protein or keratin could give additional protection and overcome frizziness.
Water is the elixir of not only body health, but also hair health. The hair fall and dryness remedy that complements most other remedies is drinking a lot of water; enough to keep hair flowing healthy and shiny. I would lastly surely recommend trimming of the hair to avoid static and frizz hair and saying "No" to salon treatments like bleaches and dyes in the summer months.

If you suffer with ridges on the nail plate CND Brisa Lite Smoothing Gel is your buddy. It does what it says on the bottle, it smoothes out those minor flaws in the natural nail. As a clear gel it can be buffed so there is no shine and no-one will know youÂ’re wearing it.
For those of you wanting a longer nail but hate the thought of Acrylics, Brisa Lite Sculpting Gel is for you. There is absolutely NO FILING of the natural nail so no damage. Brisa Lite Scultping Gel will enable you to have the length and strength you desire. The enhancements can be applied in a clear format which can be buffed so there is no shine (perfect for those working in the NHS). It can also be applied as a French Enhancement or painted with CND Vinylux or CND Shellac.
Removal is easy. The enhancement is filed down to a thin layer after which the remaining enhancement is removed in the same manner as removal of Shellac.
For those wanting a prolonged wear of enhancement, a rebalance is available and recommended every 2-3 weeks dependant on your own nail growth.
I urge you to try Brisa Lite, enhancements without the damage to the natural nail.
Treatment Plans are available for those of you who desire strong, natural nails. Providing there is a little growth nail biters can follow a programme of enhancements with Brisa Lite Scultping Gel, moving onto Smoothing Gel as the natural nail grows and gains strength and length before moving to the final stage of a simple file and polish.

Lash Perfect eyelash extensions are individual synthetic lashes that are applied directly onto your own natural eyelashes. They are perfect for special occasions, holidays or prolonged wear.
I stock a range of lengths and thicknesses so you can be sure to receive the look your after.
No more need for eyelash curlers or mascara!
The lifetime of the lashes depends upon your own natural eyelash cycle and how you look after them. You should avoid oily products near the lashes as oils will loosen the lash adhesive.
For prolonged wear maintenance sessions are recommended at 2 week intervals. It is however recommended that a fresh set is applied every 10-12 weeks.
Body Treatments
Touch is one of the most powerful methods of healing. TO some extent this is due to the effects of the energy being exchanged but probably more important is the bridge that touch creates between two living things.
Massage increases the production of endorphins which contribute to the relaxation felt post-massage. It also helps decrease the production of the stress hormones, like cortisone and adrenaline helping with anxiety and those suffering with low mood. It also helps alleviate headaches and migraine.
It can also alleviate back pain and improve range of motion easing medication dependence with chronic back ache.
Massage can enhance immunity by stimulating the lymph flow.
Massage exercises and stretches weak, tight, or atrophied muscles and can assist athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts. Massage improves the general condition of the skin. Massage promotes tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.
Massage improves circulation.
You will note I offer a variety of massage treatments. G5 massage is particularly good for those suffering from cellulite or for the athletes of you out there.
Thai Foot Massage incorporates elements of what we recognise as reflexology. The foundation of reflexology is that there are certain points on the foot that can affect other areas of the body. This massage is the ultimate therapeautic and popular massage of the feet, lower legs and hands. It is excellent for relieving stress and promoting relaxation but has many benefits for the general well being of the recipient.
Hot Stone Massage is known as an alternative therapy. The energies of stone massage are known to promote a harmonising and cleansing effect thus allowing for a meditative state of quiet and calm.
The stones are strategically placed on various pressure points in the body to release tension and improve the massage experience. Hot stone therapy can be enjoyed simply for relaxation or can be used to reduce the effects of certain health problems. The primary goal of hot stone therapy is to open up the energy channels in the body, eliminate tension in the muscles and promote deep relaxation. The heat relaxes the muscles before and during a massage treatment, enhancing the effects of a deep tissue massage and promoting deeper relaxation and a sense of calm. Hot stone therapy offers several health benefits and it can be integrated into a complete wellness or pain management program. Key benefits of hot stone therapy include improved sense of well-being; a release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers; improved arthritic conditions; a release of stored stress and tension; improved circulation; and a decrease in aches and pain in the joints. In some cases, hot stone therapy may also have positive effects on people suffering from depression, insomnia and anxiety.
Shrinking Violet Body Wraps
The Shrinking Violet Body Wrap involves a painless wrap process that can successfully remove fat in problem areas, such as thighs, buttocks and around the abdomen. The fat contained within the cells are broken down and then painlessly excreted by the body.
A 60-minute session will generally result in inch loss of 2-4 inches immediately post the one hour session although the amount varies depending on your build, but many people do shrink by one whole dress size after the initial treatment.
- Immediate results will be seen
- The solution continues to work for 72 hours.
It is an excellent jumpstart to a new, slimmer you. For fat cells to come back, new cells would have to form and that would happen if you continue to eat excess calories. Combining the Shrinking Violet Body Wrap with healthy eating and exercise will give optimum results
Problem areas can be treated every 7 days. How many treatments are required depends on individuals. Most clients will need maintenance treatments once or twice a year after the initial course of six treatments

Laser hair removal is a safe, virtually painless method of removing unwanted hair. It works by focusing a laser beam at the base of the hair follicle, halting hair growth. Laser hair removal is different to the Intense Pulsed Light system (IPL) which uses less powerful, diffused light waves. Laser hair removal can be used on any part of the body, including the most common problem areas: face, bikini area, legs and underarms. Many professionals and celebrities choose laser hair removal as it is considered the highest quality, most safe and effective way to remove unwanted hair from visible areas.

Laser Hair Reduction Delhi Technique
Depending on the area being treated, the process may take anywhere from several minutes to several hours to complete. The most commonly used lasers utilize a low energy laser beam. This beam passes through the patient’s skin and is attracted to the pigment of the hair. The energy passes down the hair shaft and is absorbed by hair follicles that are in the active growth phase, thereby disabling the hair follicle in the deeper layer of the skin. The hair follicles that are in dormant phase are not affected by the treatment. In most cases, minimal pain should be experienced and no anesthesia is required.
Laser Hair Removal Delhi Benefits
- A non-invasive, gentle technique that reduces undesirable hair from most parts of the body
- Treats larger areas effectively because it disables more than one hair at a time
- May make skin color and complexion more uniform
- Minimal discomfort
- Replaces waxing, electrolysis, shaving and bleaching
- No downtime
Laser Hair Reduction Delhi Considerations
- Laser hair removal is an ongoing process that requires multiple sessions because it only affects actively growing hair, and not all hair follicles are active at the same time. In addition, high energy levels are avoided so as to minimize the risk of injury to the adjacent skin
- Occasionally patients may experience slight redness of the skin or mild swelling around the hairs
- Sunscreen is recommended for any area treated that may be exposed to the sun
- Patients with darker skin may not respond well due to inadequate discrepancy between skin and hair colors
- Blonde or gray/white hair is less responsive due to lack of ample pigment in the hair
HOW DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK?
Laser hair removal works by directly targeting the follicle, where hair grows. A concentrated pulse of light is harmlessly beamed through the skin into the hair follicle. The pigment in the hair absorbs the heat and light from the laser and removes the hair follicle from its root without harming the skin surface. The laser beam first sources for the hair follicle by detecting its melanin. Melanin is the dark pigmentation in the hair. Then it directs the laser beam at its root to destroy it.
